The smoked paprika adds a subtle smoky taste that makes this simple salad taste much more complex than it really is.

You can enjoy this salad on its own, or spread it on carnivore bread for a more filling meal. It stores well in the fridge, making it perfect for meal prep or a quick lunch during busy workdays.

You can make a big batch on Sunday and enjoy it throughout the week. The flavors develop and blend together nicely over time, and the texture stays great for several days.

      👨‍🍳 How To Make

Follow these steps to make the carnivore tuna salad:

      Step 1

Start by chopping the boiled eggs into small pieces (I also like to leave a few big pieces).

      Step 2

Add the drained can of tuna (drain as much water as you can first).

      Step 3

Add the mayo and seasonings. Mix everything well.

      Step 4

That’s it! Spread this salad on carnivore bread (a very easy recipe).

      💡Tips

      1. Drain The Tuna Well

The biggest mistake people make is not draining the tuna properly. Open the can and press down on the tuna with the lid while draining – this removes much more water than just tilting the can.

Too much liquid will make your salad watery and dilute the flavors. After the initial drain, press down again with a fork to get out any remaining liquid.

If your tuna is too wet, it will make the mayo separate and your salad won’t hold together well.

      2. Texture Rescue

If your salad turns out too dry after being in the fridge (this can happen as the tuna and eggs absorb the mayo), don’t just add more mayo.

Instead, mix in a small amount of warm water (about 1 teaspoon at a time) and stir well. This will bring back the creamy texture without making it too heavy or diluting the flavors.

If it’s too wet, you can mix in some extra tuna – keep a spare can around just in case you need to adjust the texture.

      FAQ

Can I make this without mayo?

Yes, there are several carnivore-friendly alternatives to mayo. You can use softened butter (let it get really soft so it mixes well), cream cheese (softened), or even raw egg yolks if you’re comfortable with that. Each option will give you a different texture and taste.

What kind of tuna is best for this recipe?

Chunk light or solid white albacore tuna both work well. Chunk light is usually cheaper and has a stronger fish taste, while albacore is milder and has larger, firmer pieces.
