What Is The Carnivore Diet?

The carnivore diet is a zero carb, animal only way of eating that strips nutrition down to its most ancestral basics: meat, fish, eggs, and for some people, dairy foods such as cheese.

Everything that grows from the ground- grains, legumes, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, oils- is off the menu.

How It Differs from Keto

  • Carbs: Even “strict” keto allows up to 20–30 g net carbs; carnivore aims for virtually none.
  • Variety: Keto still embraces non starchy veggies, nuts, and low-sugar berries. carnivore excludes plant foods completely.
  • Simplicity: Carnivore eliminates tracking macros or counting carbs- if it’s from an animal, it’s on plan.

Benefits of The Carnivore Diet

1. Weight Loss: A meat only diet naturally eliminates ultra-processed, high carbohydrate foods that drive blood-sugar swings and overeating. Because protein is highly satiating and fat is energy dense, most people feel full on fewer total calories without tracking macros.

2. Better Digestion: Removing fibrous plant matter, lectins, oxalates, and other common irritants can calm digestive distress for some individuals.

3. Less Inflammation: By cutting seed oils, refined carbs, and potential food sensitivities (gluten, soy and others), carnivore adherents often notice reduced joint stiffness, clearer skin, and easier recovery after workouts.

4. Steady Energy & Mental Clarity: With carbohydrates near zero, blood glucose peaks and crashes flatten out. Many people describe all day, even energy and sharper focus, likely due to a consistent supply of ketones to the brain and fewer swings in insulin.

Carnivore Diet Tips

1. Eat Until Comfortably Full

Protein is the most satiating macronutrient we know, and the fat that travels with it provides long-lasting energy. Together they trigger the hormonal “stop signs” that tell your brain you’re satisfied.

Rely on those signals instead of external numbers: plate up a generous portion, eat slowly, then pause for a few minutes. If real hunger is still there, go back for more. if not, wrap the leftovers.

Pushing past satiety because an online calculator says you “should” hit a certain macro target can leave you sluggish and bloated, while chronically undereating will stall progress and sap hormones.

Your appetite will fluctuate- some days you’ll crush a 450-gram rib-eye, others a modest steak and a mug of broth is plenty. Let the body call the shots.

2. Added Fat

Jumping from a moderate-fat Western diet to cups of melted tallow can overwhelm lipase production and bile flow, leading to what some jokingly call the “carnivore runs.”

A smoother on-ramp is to start with naturally fatty cuts- rib-eye, 80/20 ground beef, salmon belly, pork shoulder- so you’re already near the 65-70 % calories from fat range without extra grease.

Then, if energy or satiety waver, add a tablespoon of butter or ghee here and there and see how you feel.

3. Try Different Cuts

Different muscles, organs, and species supply different micronutrients and amino acid ratios.

A simple template looks like this: make ruminant meat (beef, lamb, bison) your staple four or five times a week. Slot in pork or poultry two to three times. Enjoy seafood twice for iodine and marine omega-3s. A

nd of course work in one or two palm-sized servings of organs for an unbeatable hit of iron, B-vitamins, and preformed vitamin A.

  1. While I appreciate all of these recipes and how much work has been done to present them to us, I really wished the fonts and typefaces on the menus or flyers had large enough fonts where we could read them. I printed out the 14 day menu and even with high powered reading glasses could not make out the names of the foods.
