Step 2

Bake at 350°F for 5-6 minutes. The cheese will melt and spread out flat – this is normal.

Step 3

Remove from oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes, until you can handle them but they’re still flexible. Squeeze and shape each back into a ball.

Step 4

Return to oven for 5 more minutes or until lightly brown. The cheese will spread again slightly.

Step 5

Let cool slightly, then squeeze and shape into balls one final time. Roll each ball in pork rind crumbs. Enjoy!

💡Tips

1. Don’t Skip the Parchment Paper

These cheese balls will stick badly to any baking sheet. Parchment paper is absolutely necessary.

The cheese melts and spreads during baking, and without parchment paper, you’ll end up with a mess that’s impossible to remove without breaking your cheese balls.

2. The Reshaping

When reshaping the balls after each bake, timing is everything. Wait until they’re cool enough to handle but still warm and pliable – usually about 3-4 minutes after removing from the oven.

If you wait too long, they’ll become too firm to reshape. Use clean hands and work quickly. Gently squeeze and roll each piece between your palms to form a ball shape.

FAQ

Why do my cheese balls flatten during baking?

This is completely normal and part of the process! The cheese will melt and spread out during both baking stages.

That’s why we reshape them while they’re still warm. The spreading actually helps create that perfect crispy texture.

Just follow the reshaping instructions in steps 3 and 5, and you’ll end up with perfect round cheese balls.

Can I freeze these cheese balls?

Yes, you can freeze them, but they won’t be quite as crispy when thawed. If you want to freeze them, let them cool completely first, then place them in a freezer bag with parchment paper between layers.

They’ll keep for up to 2 months. To reheat, thaw them in the fridge overnight, then warm them in a 350°F oven for 3-4 minutes to crisp them up again.
