Carnivore Toast

Today I want to share my simple carnivore toast recipe that has become a regular part of my weekly meals.

Carnivore Toast

It’s a straightforward breakfast or lunch option that takes just a few minutes to make once you have the bread ready. This toast combines the rich flavors of butter, cream cheese, and melted cheese between two slices of homemade carnivore bread.

If you’ve been following the carnivore diet for a while, you probably know how much we miss sandwiches and toast. Regular bread is off the menu, but this carnivore friendly version brings back that satisfying crunch and soft inside that makes toast so good.

The bread itself is easy to make with just a few ingredients, and I’ll link to my bread recipe so you can try it yourself.

What makes this recipe work so well is the combination of textures. You get the crispy toasted outside from the butter, the smooth cream cheese layer, and then the melted cheese that holds everything together.

      💡Tips

      1. Let The Bread Cool Completely

Don’t rush slicing your carnivore bread after baking. When you take it out of the oven, it’s still cooking inside and needs time to set properly.

Wait at least 20 minutes (30 minutes is even better) before slicing. If you cut too early, the bread might be gummy inside or fall apart when you try to toast it.

I find that placing the bread on a wire rack helps it cool more evenly by allowing air to circulate underneath.

If you’re in a hurry, you can place the bread near an open window or in front of a fan, but never slice hot bread for this recipe. Patience here really pays off with better texture and slices that hold together when toasted.

      2. Try Different Cheese Combinations

You can experiment with different types for varied flavors. Hard cheeses like cheddar or Gouda offer a stronger flavor but don’t melt as smoothly.

Softer cheeses like mozzarella or Monterey Jack create that stretchy, gooey texture but have milder flavors. A 50/50 mix often works beautifully – try cheddar with mozzarella or Gouda with Havarti.

For the cream cheese layer, you could use regular cream cheese, mascarpone for a sweeter touch, or even cream cheese with herbs if you’re including those in your carnivore approach.

      FAQ

How thick should I slice the bread?

The ideal thickness for carnivore toast is about half an inch (around 1.3 centimeters). This thickness provides the perfect balance – thin enough to get crispy when toasted, but thick enough to hold up to the cheese and give a nice bite.
