Today I want to share with you one of my favorite keto snacks – homemade cinnamon sugar croutons!

Keto Cinnamon Sugar Croutons

These little bites are crispy, sweet, and taste like a real treat. The best part is that they are completely keto friendly, so you can enjoy them without any guilt.

If you have been on the keto diet for a while, you know how hard it can be to find something sweet that actually fits your macros. Well, these croutons are here to solve that problem for you.

What I really love about these croutons is how versatile they are. You can eat them on their own as a quick snack when you want something sweet.

You can add them on top of a salad if you like that sweet and savory combination. They also taste amazing sprinkled over some whipped cream or sugar-free yogurt.

Some people even crush them up and use them as a topping for keto ice cream. The possibilities are really endless, and once you make your first batch, you will find yourself coming up with new ways to use them.

👍 Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Satisfies Your Sweet Cravings: One of the hardest parts of following a keto diet is dealing with sweet cravings. Your body is used to having sugar, and when you cut it out, you start wanting it even more.

These cinnamon sugar croutons give you that sweet taste you are missing without kicking you out of ketosis.

Low Carb Cinnamon Sugar Croutons

Tastes Like Cinnamon Toast Cereal: Remember those cinnamon toast cereals you used to eat ? The ones that came in a box and tasted sweet and crunchy? These croutons taste just like that, but without all the sugar and carbs.

Super Easy to Make: The recipe is very straightforward and hard to mess up. You cut bread into cubes, bake them, toss them in a cinnamon butter mixture, and let them cool. That’s the whole process.

✨ Recipe Ingredients

  • 10 slices of Keto Heavy Cream Bread (cut into uniform bite-sized cubes)
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted Butter (melted)
  • 3 tablespoons Granulated Keto Sweetener – I recommend this one (amazon)
  • 1 tablespoon Ground Cinnamon

👨‍🍳 How To Make

Follow this easy recipe:

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 320°F (160°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Step 2

Spread the bread cubes in a single layer on the baking sheet. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, tossing every 10 minutes. You want them to be golden brown and feel firm/crispy before adding any toppings.

Step 3

While the bread is baking, whisk the melted butter, sweetener, cinnamon in a large mixing bowl until well combined.

Step 4

As soon as you remove the tray from the oven, immediately dump the hot bread cubes into the cinnamon-butter bowl. Toss quickly and gently until every piece is fully coated.

Step 5

Spread the coated cubes back onto the baking sheet in a single layer. Let them sit undisturbed for 15-20 minutes. As the butter and sweetener cool, they will harden into a crunchy, sweet “shell.” Enjoy.

💡Tips

1. Make Sure the Bread Is Completely Dry and Crispy

This is probably the most important tip for this recipe. Before you add the cinnamon butter coating, your bread cubes need to be fully baked and crispy all the way through.

If they are still soft or chewy in the middle, the final croutons won’t have the right texture. They will end up soggy instead of crunchy. When you take the bread out of the oven, pick up one cube and break it in half.

Look at the inside – it should be dry and firm, not soft or moist. The outside should feel hard when you tap it, not squishy.

If the cubes aren’t ready yet, put them back in the oven for another five to ten minutes.

2. Toss the Bread Every Ten Minutes While Baking

During the initial baking step before you add the coating, you need to toss or flip the bread cubes every ten minutes or so.

This helps them dry out and get crispy on all sides evenly. If you just leave them sitting there without moving them, the bottom of each cube will get more done than the top.

Some sides might even start to burn while other sides are still soft. Set a timer on your phone so you don’t forget to toss them.

When the timer goes off, open the oven, pull out the baking sheet, and use a spatula to flip and move the cubes around.

FAQ

Can I use coconut oil instead of butter?

Yes, you can substitute coconut oil for butter. Use the same amount of coconut oil as the recipe calls for butter, which is three tablespoons. Make sure to use refined coconut oil if you don’t want any coconut flavor in your croutons.
