🥧 Making Low Carb Shepherd’s Pie

This easy keto shepherd’s pie is amazingly tasty! Follow these steps:

Step 1

Place a large pan over medium-high heat. Add olive oil, and once hot- add the meat and cook it until brown.

Add the diced celery, carrots, onions, rosemary, thyme, pepper, and salt, and mix.

Step 2

Pour the beef broth and tomato paste into the pan and mix well. Reduce the heat and continue simmering allowing it to thicken.

Step 3

While the sauce thickens and cooks, microwave the cauliflower florets in the microwave for about 10 minutes. Then, drain them.

Transfer them to a food processor along with cream cheese, cheddar cheese, butter, garlic, pepper, and salt. Puree until the mixture is smooth.

Step 4

Transfer the meat sauce to a 8*8 inch baking dish (make sure to drain any grease). Spread it evenly.

Then, spread the mashed cauliflower mixture over the meat sauce.

You can also top it with cheddar cheese and other seasonings.

Step 5

Bake at 400F (205C) for about 30-35 minutes. Allow the keto shepherds pie to cool down for at least 15 minutes before slicing.

Toppings

If you want to make this keto shepherd’s pie even more delicious, you can add different toppings such as shredded cheddar cheese, smoked paprika, and chives.

Other types of cheese may work well too, but I liked the smokiness of the paprika with the cheddar.

Ground Beef Or Lamb

You can make this keto shepherds pie from ground beef or lamb. I like to use ground lamb because it gives a unique flavor. But, of course, that ground beef will work just as well!

You can also mix both types of meat together if you’d like. Ground pork is also an option- but I personally think that ground beef and lamb give the best flavor.

Cheddar Cheese

I used chedder cheese in the cauliflower layer, because in my opinion- it really works well with shepherd’s pie.

You can use other types of cheese like mozzarella, but I think cheddar cheese is the perfect choice in this case.

Freezing

You can freeze this keto shepherd’s pie – it’s really not a problem. Just make sure to wrap it well in foil or place it in a well-sealed container.

To defrost, let it sit at room temperature for a few hours, then reheat in the oven or microwave. I think the best texture is achieved if you reheat it in the oven.
