The keto diet is very effective for weight loss as well as for improving mental clarity and focus.
But sometimes, people on this diet start craving some specific foods like pizza. Let’s be honest – pizza is delicious. It’s hard to resist taking a bite of a hot, cheesy pizza when you see it.
But, it’s full of carbs and doesn’t fit into the keto diet. So, what can you do?
Try this keto pizza skillet recipe. It tastes really good, and it’s very easy to make. Anyone can do it!
Why You Should Try This Low Carb Pizza Skillet Recipe
There are so many keto pizza recipes online and on YouTube. So, why should you try this one? Here are 4 reasons:
- It’s the perfect keto meal. The main ingredients are ground beef, cheese, and vegetables. It’s high in fat, and low in carbs, so it will keep you in ketosis.
- It’s easy to make, even if you’ve never made a keto meal before.
- It’s a one-skillet meal, so there’s no need to dirty up a bunch of dishes.
- It’s delicious!
Skillet Pizza Keto Ingredients
1 pound Ground Beef – I recommend using 80/20 ground beef. Too fatty or too lean and the pizza won’t taste right. You can also use ground lamb or pork instead of beef.
1 cup Mushrooms
1 cup chopped Bell Pepper
1 1/2 cup chopped Zucchini
1 1/2 cup Low Carb Marinara – I recommend making your own sauce, but you could also use a quality low-carn marinara.
1 cup Shredded Cheese – the best cheese for this skillet keto pizza is mozzarella, but you could also use cheddar or a blend of both.
1/4 cup Pepperoni Slices – make sure to buy high-quality pepperoni without any sugar or added fillers. Not only it will taste better, but it will also be healthier for you.
How To Make Keto Skillet Pizza?
This low carb skillet pizza recipe is so easy to follow and make! The hardest part is waiting for it to be done! Here are the simple steps:
Step 1: Cooking The Meat
Start by heating a large skillet over medium heat. Then, cook the ground meat. Drain the grease that is released during the cooking process.
Step 2: Adding The Vegetables
Chop the vegetables into small pieces. Add them to the pan with the marinara sauce.
Stir everything together and cook for 7-8 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender. Make sure the liquid has mostly evaporated
Step 3: Adding Cheese
Add the cheese, as well as the pepperoni, and broil for no more than 3 minutes. Once the cheese is hot and bubbly, it’s ready to serve. Enjoy!
Carbs Per Serving
This skillet low carb pizza contains only 5 grams of net carbs per serving. So, it’s perfect for those on a keto diet. You can even eat it on daily basis and still stay in ketosis.
Can you believe it? pizza and keto can go together! This dish is so good, that you’ll crave it even when you’re not on a diet.
Can You Freeze This Pizza?
Yes, you can. I recommend vacuum sealing it first or wrapping it tightly in foil and then freezing it. This way, it will last longer in the freezer without losing flavor or texture.
But since this recipe is so easy, I usually just make it fresh when I’m in the mood for pizza.
Tips And Ideas
Don’t Forget The Seasonings!
Some popular seasonings that go well with pizza are garlic, basil, oregano, and thyme. Some people also like adding red pepper flakes or black pepper to their pizza.
Using Lamb or Pork Ground Meat
In this recipe, I am using ground beef as the main ingredient. However, you could substitute ground lamb or pork and the result would be just as delicious.
Lamb has a strong flavor, which some people love and others find too strong. If you want to use lamb, I recommend using leaner ground meat so that the flavor isn’t too overwhelming.
Pork is a good alternative to beef and lamb, and it has a mild flavor.
Try Adding “Exotic” Cheese
You can also add cheese like Gorgonzola your keto skillet pizza. This cheese has a very unique flavor.
It melts well and is very creamy. It’s also very high in fat, and low in carbs – perfect for Keto!
Gorgonzola cheese is expensive, but you don’t need a lot to get that great flavor. In fact, using too much can make your pizza taste horrible. So, don’t go overboard!
By the way, if you can’t find Gorgonzola at your local grocery store, try other blue cheeses. They all taste different, so play around to see which one you like the best.
