Ham steak is a popular and inexpensive cut of meat. It’s a piece of the ham shank or leg- cut fairly thin.
People who like ham, but don’t want to roast a whole ham often choose to prepare ham steak. It’s very tasty and can be used in a variety of recipes.
When prepared correctly, it’s tender and juicy. Ham steak can be grilled, baked, or pan-fried.
👨🍳 Keto Ham Steak Recipe Ingredients
1 Ham Steak, 1/2″ thick
2 tablespoons Butter (or Tallow)
🥩 How To Make Keto Ham Steak
This keto ham steak recipe is very easy to make, just follow these instructions:
Cut ham steaks into thin and short strips (about 2-2.5″ long).
Add the butter to a skillet over medium-high heat. Once the skillet is hot, cook the ham strips in the butter (until it becomes crispy). Stir the ham occasionally.
Remove and serve. Enjoy!
How To Tenderize Ham Steak?
If you cut the ham steak into very thin strips, it should be quite tender when cooked. But, if you want to make it even more tender, you can use baking soda.
Just cover the meat with 0.5-1 teaspoon of baking soda and let it sit for at least one hour.
This method is used in many restaurants to tenderize meat, so it should work well for you too.
It also works for beef and chicken. Many people use it even for ground beef.
Is Ham Steak Keto Friendly?
Ham is a fairly lean meat. That’s why we fry it in butter, to make it more keto-friendly (and juicy).
Use as much butter (or tallow) as possible to fry the ham steak. It will be crispier, and higher in fat (which is an important macronutrient on a keto diet).
Can You Prepare Ham Steak In The Oven?
Yes. Just slice it into thin pieces, place on a baking sheet, and cook at 400 degrees until crispy.
In my opinion, pan frying is better, but if you’re in a hurry (or don’t want to leave a mess), the oven will work just fine.
