👍 Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Rich Brown Butter Flavor: The browned butter adds a deep, nutty flavor that regular donuts don’t have.
When you cook butter until it turns golden brown, it creates this amazing taste that’s like caramel and nuts mixed together.
It makes these donuts taste fancy and special, even though they’re actually quite simple to make.
Perfect Donut Texture: Thanks to the combination of almond flour and whey protein powder, these donuts have that real donut feel – soft and fluffy on the inside with a slightly crispy outside.
Satisfying Breakfast Option: These donuts are filling because they’re made with almond flour and protein powder.
Unlike regular donuts that leave you hungry an hour later, these will keep you satisfied all morning. Plus, they pair perfectly with your morning coffee or tea!

👨🍳 How To Make
Follow this easy recipe:
Step 1
First, we will make donuts. Preheat the oven to 325°F and grease a donut pan with melted butter.
Step 2
Add these ingredients to a large mixing bowl: protein powder, almond flour, sweetener, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
Mix well, and then add in the eggs, almond milk, melted butter, and vanilla. Mix again until well combined.
Step 3
Fill the donut pan with the mixture (about 2/3 full). Bake for about 15 minutes or until the donuts are lightly browned.
Let them cool in the pan for 20 minutes, then flip onto a wire rack and allow them to cool for at least 20 more minutes.
Step 4
Meanwhile, we will make the delicious brown butter glaze. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Continue cooking it for about 5 minutes until it is browned. Then, remove and allow it to cool for 5-10 minutes.
Step 5
Add the powdered sweetener to a medium bowl. Start slowly whisking in the browned butter and continue until smooth and everything is combined.
Step 6
Add in 1.5 tablespoons of heavy cream and vanilla, and stir until combined.
Step 7
Now for the easy part. Spread the glaze on the donuts and let them set for 10 minutes. That’s it! Enjoy.
💡Tips
1. Perfect Brown Butter
Making brown butter is super simple, but timing is everything. I recommend using a light colored pan so you can see the butter changing color.
Cut the butter into even pieces so it melts evenly. Cook it over medium heat, and watch carefully – it will first melt, then foam, and finally turn golden brown with little specks at the bottom.
These specks are good – they add flavor! But once you see them, remove the pan from heat right away. The whole process takes about 5-7 minutes.
If the butter smells nutty and looks amber-colored, you’ve done it right. If it’s black or smells burnt, start over.
2. Grease The Pan Well
Even if you’re using a non-stick donut pan, spray it well with cooking spray or brush with melted butter.
Keto donuts can stick more than regular ones because of the almond flour. Make sure to get all the corners and edges of each donut cavity.
Also, don’t fill the cavities more than 3/4 full – these donuts will rise, and if you overfill the pan, you’ll lose that classic donut shape.

FAQ
1. Can I substitute coconut flour for almond flour?
No, unfortunately, you can’t directly substitute coconut flour for almond flour in this recipe. Coconut flour absorbs much more liquid than almond flour.
If you tried using the same amount of coconut flour, your donuts would be super dry and crumbly.
If you really need to use coconut flour, you’d need to completely change the recipe with different amounts of liquid and eggs.
2. How do I know when the butter is properly browned?
Browning butter goes through several stages. First, it melts and starts to foam. Keep cooking and watching – the foam will start to subside, and you’ll see little golden brown specks forming at the bottom of the pan.
The butter will smell nutty and turn amber colored. It’s better to take it off the heat a little early than too late.
