Are you following the carnivore diet and wondering if chicken can be a part of your meal plan?
In this article, I will tell you everything you need to know about chicken meat, and how it can be a delicious and satisfying part of your carnivore diet journey.
Let me start by saying that generally speaking- any kind of meat can be a part of a healthy carnivore diet. This includes chicken, fish, pork, beef, and so on.
Chicken – The Bad Reputation
Most likely, you started “questioning” chicken meat when you read online that compared to other meats- it’s not as nutrient-dense or healthy.
So many people online claim that chicken meat is not fatty enough, it’s full of PUFAs, and many other claims. This is all false by the way.
So, it’s pretty understandable that people nowadays are confused about which meat is the best to eat on a carnivore diet.
Why You Should Eat Chicken On The Carnivore Diet
Here are some of the reasons why chicken can be a great addition to your carnivore diet plan:
1. It’s Tasty
Obviously, each person likes different things. But, in my opinion- chicken is delicious. I’m not talking about eating chicken breast or other dry cuts.
I like chicken wings so much. They are juicy, fatty, and so easy to make. You really can’t go wrong with chicken wings or mess them up.
There are many people who don’t like the taste of beef or its texture. If you are one of those people, don’t force yourself to eat it just because other people think it’s “the best meat”. A carnivore diet with chicken can be just as effective and delicious.
2. It’s Affordable
In most countries, chicken meat is less expensive than beef, lamb, or pork. If you feel like the carnivore diet is too expensive, or just trying to save some money, chicken is a great way to do it.
Chicken wings and chicken thighs are fatty, delicious, and cost so much less than most other meats.
3. It’s Nutrient Dense
Some people claim that chicken meat is inferior to beef and lamb, and that it’s not really nutrient-dense. However, this simply isn’t true!
Chicken is an excellent source of protein, vitamins, and minerals. Check out the nutrient profile of chicken wings as an example. And if you eat chicken liver as well, you’ll be getting even more nutrients.
4. It’s Easy To Prepare
If you can afford to buy aged premium beef steaks, then cooking them is probably not an issue.
But, if you buy cuts of beef that need some slow cooking to tenderize them, then you know that it’s not as easy and quick to cook as chicken.
Chicken is so easy to cook, it’s amazing. You really have to put some effort to overcook it or make it taste bad.
When I make chicken wings, for example, I just place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and grill them in the oven for an hour.
That’s it. It’s so simple, and words can’t describe how tasty these wings come out.
We all have busy schedules, and sometimes it’s hard to find the time to cook a big meal. Especially when you follow a carnivore diet and can’t just buy junk food or eat out all the time. Chicken can be a timesaver.
5. PUFAs Are Not A Problem
I will expand on this in a later post, but to put it simply, PUFAs are not a problem on the carnivore diet – if you only eat meat.
PUFAs from chicken are not a problem as well. So many people are worried about PUFAs, but they really don’t need to be, if they eat what humans are designed to eat – real meat!
6. Easy To Digest
I, and many other people- find chicken meat one of the easiest meats to digest. If you have any problems digesting red meat, chicken is a great alternative.
I’m not saying you should ONLY eat chicken, but it is a great option, especially if your body digests it well. Personally -my body doesn’t really react well to beef, but chicken is just fine.
7. You Can Easily Make It Fatty
Some cuts of chicken are indeed too lean to eat on the carnivore diet daily. However, other cuts- like chicken wings and thighs- are loaded with fat.
Also, don’t forget that you can fry and cook any chicken cut in butter or animal fat to make it more fatty and delicious.
Don’t Forget Chicken Liver
Chicken liver is an excellent source of vitamins and minerals, and it’s a great way to get more nutrients into your diet.
Don’t forget about it when you’re planning your carnivore meals! Chicken liver is as healthy as beef or pork liver- check out this page for a full comparison.
It’s clear that chicken meat can, and should be, a part of the carnivore diet. It’s a nutritious food that can be easily prepared, and it provides a good source of protein and other nutrients.
However, as with all things, moderation is key. Eat different types of meat- beef, chicken, lamb, pork, and even fish- to get a variety of nutrients, and don’t overdo on a single type of meat.
