It’s a good option when you want something that feels a bit more like a treat, but without any ingredients that aren’t allowed on your diet. So, if you’ve been feeling like your carnivore meals are getting a bit repetitive, this custard might be just what you need to add some variety to your menu.

👍 Why You’ll Love This Recipe

      👨‍🍳 How To Make

      Follow this easy recipe:

      Step 1

Start by preheating the oven to 350°F and beating the eggs lightly in a bowl.

      Step 2

Heat the milk, cream, and honey (if using) in a pan until it’s close to boiling.

      Step 3

Pour the hot mixture over the beaten eggs and stir continuously.

      Step 4

Now strain the mixture through a sieve into an oven-proof dish (I used a 650ml one).

      Step 5

Bake in the oven for 18-20 minutes. It will wobble in the center a bit. Reduce the temperature if it starts burning.

      Step 6

Add the crumbled bacon on top and bake for 25-35 more minutes until cooked through. Then, remove from the oven and let it cool for 30 minutes. Enjoy!

      💡Tips

      1. Watch The Baking Time Closely

Baking times can vary depending on your oven, the size and shape of your baking dish, and even the temperature of your ingredients when you start.

The recipe gives a range of 24-35 minutes for the final baking step, but it’s a good idea to start checking even earlier, maybe around 20 minutes. Look for a slight wobble in the center when you gently shake the dish.

If it’s very liquidy, it needs more time. If it’s completely set and doesn’t wobble at all, you might have overcooked it. Remember, the custard will continue to set a bit as it cools.

      2. Cooling is Important

The recipe says to let the custard cool for 30 minutes after baking, and this step is really important. It might be tempting to dig in right away, but giving it time to cool serves a couple of purposes.

First, it allows the custard to finish setting. The residual heat will continue to cook it slightly even after it’s out of the oven.

Second, it lets the flavors develop and meld together. You’ll get a better taste if you’re patient. If you cut into it too soon, it might be too runny or the flavors might not have fully developed.
